55 min Video, big file but quite interestingENJOY

Kim -- it is a pretty good video. If one were inclined to build a 335 the video nicely demonstrates the construction of the centre block.

Thing that disturbs me about the video is that they build a perfectly good 335 and kick the crap out of it and then put a huge price tag on it. I guess there is a consumer for everything.

With you on that Anthony, the Krishner Stamp would have been enough.

Have you ever seen the Epiphone remake of Sir Paul's guitar -- comes complete with scratches and Detroit Redwings sticker.

Why do we work so hard to make our guitars nice and polished?

I don't know if you all have heard of Tom Murphy, but he is Gibson's master of the artificially aged guitar. Any way his shop is right down the road from mine. I am amazed at how he can take a new Les Paul, or 335 and do his magic to duplicate a historic guitar. The man is truly an artist, a fine guitarist, and all around good guy.

Anthony no offense taken. I personally don't care for artificially aged guitars either, but I enjoy seeing his work, and am amazed by how much work and detail goes into his niche of lutherie.

Another interesting thing about Tom and his guitars is that many times the instruments are custom ordered by famous musicians whose guitars have become too valuable or fragile to take on the road. He will make new duplicates of their vintage instruments so that the originals can be preserved, while on stage the musician appears to be playing a 60 something instrument.

I think it's Krishna in the usual spelling, but I'm sure the deity won't mind!

Oddly enough, a store not that far from me had a Clapton 335 - right up in the front window - a couple walked in, looked around and then at it for a while, she opened her coat, had some kind of hanger jig around her neck, hung the guitar on it, closed up her coat and they walked out the front door with it (supposedly). The in store camera didnt catch them walking out though, only putting it in her coat. So the police wont prosecute - not enough evidence to prove they actually stole it. Under the law, its not stealing till you walk out of the store with the merchandise. But they didnt get the cool Cream logo'd case - bummer.

I did not have 55 minutes to devote to this video. I skimmed it and hoped they would reveal what the pickups resistance measured. Did I miss it?

Timely post. I've recently decided that I'm in the market for an ES 335. I considered building one but it would be nice to have a Gibson logo on it.

Joe -- Gibson 335's are my favorite electric. I've got a 1978 in near mint condition.

Awhile back I did a bit of research and if you want your 335 to have collector value you'll need to purchase a 1969 or older. 1970's marks the deep dark days of Gibson when they were owned by Norlin.
